Unique Technical Training Ground
Airservices officially opened its $22 million Learning Academy Hot Fire Training Ground (LAHFTG) on Tuesday 16 April 2013. The new facility supports Airservices Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training capabilities and centralises its training in Melbourne. From ab initio to instructor training, the LAHFTG will equip ARFF fire fighters with the competencies required to deal with large, complex airframes.
Scope of works included training and garaging facilities, as well as a custom designed water treatment plant to enable water to be recycled. The apparatus centre-piece is a scale replica half A380, half 747 fuselage. This has LNG fire scenarios and hot smoke training capabilities.
